my mother's hands

Last week I woke up to an email informing me that my poem My Mother's Hands has been awarded first prize in an open-themed poetry contest held in Texas. I'm not very good at coming up with titles for any of my works so I believe that "my mother's hands" is more than enough to tell you about what I've written. Inspiration for this poem wasn't my mother's hands per se but experiencing what she had done for me. And what better time to win this contest than now for this was like an early present to my mother for Mother's Day. Thanking my mother with a poem wasn't enough, I felt, so I spent an afternoon learning to make rainbow cakes and another morning making one just for her.

  5. I can't stand cake and pastries, but I think I am willing to try this one because it looks great, haha! Same reason I want to try macarons.

That sounds amazing you won first prize for your poetry! You really deserve it! I think I want to read the poem now but hey, I'm sure it's amazing even if I don't get to! I actually think "My Mother's Hands" is a great title for a poem about what your mother has done. It's not too literal which can be boring, or too abstract which becomes hard to understand.

  6. Congratulations on winning first prize! That's really sweet composing something for you mom and baking something for her too! I don't know how to bake so I couldn't really bake something for my mum as a gift. The cake look really cute!
